The Falls Music & Arts Festival is a multi-day music festival held annually in Lorne, and each year for the past 9 years I have been conducting different emergency response scenarios for the Falls Festival team, all Emergency Response Agencies, Event security, and Shire staff members. Previous scenarios have included, bushfire, storm, terrorist, drug overdose, stabbing etc so this year the scenario was an acute gastroenteritis outbreak and the ramifications of that. The key to the scenario is that it isn’t run as a linear event, where you do one thing and then the next but rather real time where all the other things that are happening at the same time are also included and the human factor is overlaid into it. The result, clear understanding of any shortfall or overload in the processes, improvement of decisional options and innovative problem solving and then another look at their response plan.
